About the Project
The Afghanistan Value Chains – Livestock (AVC-L) project is funded by USAID and lead by DAI Global, to whom the Borlaug Institute is contributing as a subcontractor.
AVC-L will work with private-sector anchor firms in the dairy, poultry, small ruminants, Apiculture (bee keeping), and other livestock value chains across Afghanistan, supporting their sustained growth. The gains of the anchor firms will in turn promote efficiency, profitability and strengthening of the livestock value chains, with direct and positive impact on the rural economies and rural households including women and youth.
The AVC-L program will focus its interventions on key value chain leverage points, e.g. processors, input suppliers, traders linked to international markets, large wholesalers, plus producers’ associations to achieve the project objectives. The project will contribute positive and measurable impacts on the livestock sector and will ensure that local market actors are involved at every stage of the value chain.
