“The First Political Order: Sex, Governance, and National Security”

Hudson is Professor and holds the George H. B. Bush Chair in the Department of International Affairs in the Bush School of Government and Public Service, where she directs the Program on Women, Peace, and Security. Hudson has won the Bush Excellence in International Research Award, has been named a Distinguished Scholar of Foreign Policy, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair, an Andrew Carnegie Fellow, and a 2009 “Top 100 Global Thinkers” by Foreign Policy Magazine. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Defense, and her award-winning books include Sex and World Peace, The Hillary Doctrine, and Bare Branches.

Hudson will present the results of this DoD-funded project examining the linkages between the subordination of women and nation-state outcomes along a variety of dimensions—security and conflict, political stability, economic performance, health, demography, and others.
