Smarter Agribusiness Regulation – Innovative Approaches to Policy Reform

In many countries, agriculture businesses face unnecessarily complicated regulations applied by poorly functioning government institutions. This makes it difficult if not impossible for these businesses – especially small farms and processors to grow. Cardno International Development U.S., President, Joe Lowther, will discuss means to ensure that governments apply laws and regulations that spur economic development while protecting the public. A collaborative and transparent approach to developing and implementing policies can ensure that the regulatory framework is rational and the regulators are efficiently applying it. Mr. Lowther will use case studies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Timor Leste to demonstrate how this approach can benefit agribusiness growth and also transform country’s general regulatory environment.
