“Reducing by Responding: Challenging Agricultural Innovation to Reduce Post Harvest Loss”

Dr. Prasanta K. Kalita is the Director of the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss and a Professor and Leader of the Soil & Water Resources Engineering Division in Agricultural; Biological Engineering Department at the University of Illinois. He currently also serves as the Assistant Dean of Research in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and a Distinguished Teacher-Scholar at the University of Illinois. Meeting the food demand of rapidly increasing global population is emerging as a major challenge to the mankind. Minimizing these postharvest losses (PHL) can be one feasible approach in sustainably increasing food availability to combat hunger. Dr. Prasanta Kalita will be discussing worldwide PHL, the complexity and factors of PHL, and how ADM is working to reduce postharvest losses.
