The Managing Risk through Economic Development (M-RED), a program in Nepal is funded by Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) philanthropies. The program aims to build the resilience of vulnerable communities by reducing the human and economic toll of natural disasters while simultaneously reducing poverty. Mercy Corps is working on a systems-based ‘facilitation’ approach to design and implement M-RED, ensuring that communities not only have plans to cope with the next disaster but also make critical investments to impact their long-term resilience. As an intern, Yuvaraj Sudhakar carried out his work in plain areas by analyzing the major market players who are influenced by M-RED, finding the cost and benefit variables of farmers, data collection methods and training the field staffs for calculating the social value using Social Return On Investment (SROI) a principle based method.
