The Borlaug Digital Archive provides scholars and the general public with access to the papers of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug in an effort to build on his lifetime of research, and inspire the next generation of scholars as they confront the agricultural challenges of the twenty–first century. The digital repository contains records covering his entire career from the 1940s until his death in 2009. The initial release of documents will be followed by additional releases as records are scanned and reviewed for access restrictions.

About the Collections
The Borlaug Digital Archive contains three unique groups of records documenting Dr. Borlaug’s life and career. A general description of each collection is found below. Please note that the folder tree in the Laserfiche repository reflects the original provenance (order) of the records to facilitate browsing by collection and folder. In addition, all records are scanned using optical character recognition software (OCR) allowing users to conduct key word searches across the entire archives or portion of the archives for subjects of interest or individual documents.
Dallas Home Collection
The Dallas Home Collection contains records from 1953 to 2008. The collection houses a wide variety of records including personal photographs, scrapbooks and miscellaneous articles of interest to Dr. Borlaug. Specific to this collection are personal photo albums and scrapbooks, awards received, various country files, lecture materials, correspondence concerning population control, and the Rockefeller Foundation Oral History.
International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) Collection
The CIMMYT Collection includes more than 180 cubic feet of documents spanning from the 1940s to 1990s the chronicle Dr. Borlaug’s early work in Mexico as part of a Rockefeller Foundation team and later as director of the CIMMYT Wheat Research and Production Program. These records were gathered from Dr. Borlaug’s personal office at the CIMMYT headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico. Topics covered by these documents include:

Texas A&M Office Collection
The Texas A&M Office Collection houses documents related to Dr. Borlaug’s classroom work and research at Texas A&M University during his years as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Agriculture (1984−2009). Documents in this collection include classroom notes, lecture material, student work, publications, and a correspondence between Dr. Borlaug and his students, colleagues and world leaders.

Borlaug Digital Archives are provided free of charge through the generosity of the Borlaug family; the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, Texas A&M University and Texas A&M AgriLife Research. All documents and images in the archive are reviewed under the donor’s deed of gift prior to posting to the repository. Restricted items are indentified with a withdrawal sheet.
How to Cite Documents
Information in the Norman E. Borlaug Digital Archive includes data files, text files, and digital images. Citations must identify that they are electronic records. A citation for an electronic record will usually be identical to citations for textual records, with the additional insert of [Electronic Record].
Citations begin with the file title; followed by the physical form of the records, placed in brackets; then any appropriate subseries and series titles; the database title, if any; and the repository and its location. For example,
