
Title XII: Famine Prevention Freedom from Hunger Act
The In 2000, the U.S. Congress passed Title XII entitled “Famine Prevention, Freedom from Hunger Improvement Act” to strengthen and broaden the purpose, methods, and focus of U.S. universities’ engagement in foreign development assistance. This law was drafted at Texas A&M University and introduced from this Congressional district by Representative Kevin Brady.
Goals of Title XII include:
- Achieve an understanding of agricultural problems worldwide;
- Increase human and institutional capacity to solve problems in agriculture;
- Support entry of US and foreign rural industries into world markets through development and trade research and extension; and
- Apply agricultural science to solve food and environmental problems, especially in poor countries
