Texas has a long tradition of partnership with countries throughout Latin America. Our neighbor Mexico was the host and home of Dr. Borlaug for many years. Trade relationships are vital to our economies and initiatives such as NAFTA and CAFTA empower the trade of agricultural commodities. Our shared history and future make Latin American partnerships a priority of the Borlaug Insitute.
Borlaug Institute and Texas A&M AgriLife programs in Latin America are focused on community economic development, strengthening of regulatory institutions, and promoting regional trade. In addition, we have programs working on development of new crop varieties, ecosystem conservation, and tourism.
