Sub-Saharan Africa

One Response to Sub-Saharan Africa

  1. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia in 1970 I head about Dr Borlaug receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. I though I might like to do that type of thing someday. Over the last seven years I with Ethiopian researchers have established a successful potato project high in the mountains of Ethiopia where they can not grow the normal grains. The farm families are very dependent upon potatoes in their diet. They have made progress in Late Blight tolerant varieties. One farmer told me he looses half his crop to tuber moth. The only current resistance to Potato Tuber Moth is alien gene transfers. The Ethiopian government is very resistant to any GMO even though 42% of children are reported as short on nutrition.
