The Howard G. Buffett Endowed Chair on Conflict & Development of the Borlaug Institute was established in 2010 by a gift from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. The chair is held in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University by Dr. Edwin C. Price.

Borlaug Institute partners with farmers in Babil Province, Iraq.
The C&D chair aims to develop innovative research and educate world-class practitioners and theorists to help navigate the complex intersection between conflict and development that determines the fate of peoples and communities around the world. Going beyond conflict prevention and recovery, the C&D program highlights the pivotal role of socio-economic development for its potential to both inflame as well as assuage the tensions that ignite civil violence. This groundbreaking program will uncover options and opportunities for better addressing the deadly dilemmas at the interface of cultures, resources and technologies.
Vision
The Borlaug Institute C&D Program at Texas A&M will serve as the premier interdisciplinary research and training platform for scholars and practitioners engaged in activities related to conflict and development worldwide. By 2015 the C&D Program will:
- facilitate interdisciplinary and multi-sector collaboration for applied solutions by hosting scholars, fellows, and practitioners;
- support innovative basic and applied research projects, programs, and partnerships; and
- disseminate lessons learned and best practices through academic courses, programs, and trainings to prepare the next generation of problem solvers.
