One Aggieland

Texas A&M University is widely recognized for its tradition of service. We the Aggie family have continually proved our service to the state of Texas, the nation, and the world. However, around the world there is still much need – people living with poverty and hunger. We have the ability to make a difference. Organizations across campus have come together to renew our commitment to global service by forming One Aggieland – a unified commitment of the Aggie family to fight global poverty and hunger.

One Aggieland is not a new organization but a federation of Aggies and Aggie organizations committed to increasing the global impact of Texas A&M through a combined effort. One Aggieland will promote advocacy of global issues and support student and faculty international engagement. The One Aggieland alliance is open all individuals and organizations committed to making a positive impact on the world.

We have tremendous resources at our disposal including the experience of faculty, the energy of the student body, and the strength of the Aggie network. These resources can be put to work through teaching, research, and engagement. For example, students and scientists developing new technologies for making drinking water safe, student groups creating their own international service opportunities, and faculty helping their counterparts in developing countries improve curriculum. These activities are primarily aimed at helping those in need throughout the world – but they also provide benefits to our community in College Station. These activities provide us a valuable global perspective and position Texas A&M as a leader in global citizenship.

The global problems are complex and wide ranging. They require broad skills in leadership, business, agriculture, engineering, public health, and social science. One Aggieland challenges all students, faculty and organizations to use the resources and talents at their disposal to solving these problems. Dr. Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and distinguished professor at Texas A&M, famously proved that one person could change the fate of millions of people. As a united Aggie family, we can change the fate of the world.
