Study Abroad in Agriculture
Study abroad is an enriching and eye-opening adventure, where learning extends to the world beyond the classroom walls. There is no substitute for living and studying in a foreign country if you want to gain in-depth knowledge of another culture's customs, people, language and of yourself and your own country. In addition, you will find that living, studying or working in another country can develop important real world experience that can be of interest to future employers.
Texas A&M and the Borlaug Institute offer several exciting programs for those wanting to immerse themselves in another culture. Faculty-led study abroad programs are groups of students (ranging from small groups of 10 or less to much larger groups of upwards of 100 or more) led by a Texas A&M faculty member teaching Texas A&M courses that are targeted to content related to the location of study. Each group program is designed to provide students with academic course work for which they recive credit that a culturally relevant application to the host country, while also enriching their experiences with tours of historical and cultural sites. These exciting opportunities are offered for fall, spring, summer, and winter break sessions may last from 10 days to 6 weeks or more. Programs are offered in English, with the exception of the language credit programs (i.e., Spanish Language - offering SPAN 221 & 222) that provide instruction in that language
The Borlaug Institute is committed to providing excellence in international agriculture education and research. Through its programs, both students and faculty from around the world can work towards the vision of Dr. Norman Borlaug.
Reciprocal Exchange Programs provide Texas A&M students the opportunity to study and live at an overseas university for one or two semesters. Students enroll and are "mainstreamed" in the academic setting of the host university, attending classes and interacting with the local students. These programs provide adequate time for a total cultural immersion, which significantly enhances cross-cultural experience and understanding. As such, proficiency in the local language is essential in order to compete and excel in the local academic setting.
There are five universities that have an agreement with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Below is a link for information on each of these programs that might be of interest to a student in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. When looking for a match with a specific major, look carefully as curricula may be under a different faculty/college than expected.
